The United States government has approved the sale of several arms packages to Taiwan, with a total value of $11.1 billion. This information was published on the Focus Taiwan portal.
According to the publication, the sale includes eight different packages, which consist of M109A7 self-propelled howitzers, HIMARS rocket systems, TOW 2B anti-tank missile systems, drones, and FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank defense systems.
This is the second arms sale to Taiwan initiated by President Donald Trump's administration since his return to the White House.
Since the Chinese Civil War in 1949, Taiwan has been governed by its own administration after the Kuomintang forces led by Chiang Kai-shek retreated to the island. Beijing considers Taiwan part of its territory, a view supported by many countries, including Russia.
The United States severed diplomatic relations with Taipei in 1979, establishing them with the People's Republic of China. Despite this, Washington adheres to the "One China" policy but maintains ties with the Taiwanese administration and continues to supply military equipment. According to Chinese authorities, the total volume of American military supplies to Taiwan has exceeded $70 billion in recent years.
