The agreements stipulate that Uzbekistan will purchase new generation small modular reactors from NuScale with a capacity of 77 MW, which became the first certified in the USA and received approval from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in 2025. The specific volumes of purchases and the total contract value are not disclosed; however, the project for a small nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan includes the construction of several reactors with a capacity ranging from 55 to 77 MW.
It is expected that the cost of the small nuclear power plant project will reach up to $1 billion, according to various estimates. As part of broader cooperation, investments in the development of critical minerals and the energy sector are also planned, amounting to up to $400 million, and the total volume of joint projects could reach tens of billions of dollars.
The American company Air Products has already announced its intention to invest up to $3 billion in the creation of a methanol plant in the Bukhara region. The "Methanol Island" project will be part of a large gas chemical complex where natural gas will be processed into olefins.
The agreements also address issues related to combating international crime and drug trafficking, including the exchange of operational information between law enforcement agencies. In addition, the USA intends to provide Uzbekistan with equipment to enhance regional security.
Economic negotiations covered the automotive and aviation sectors. Uzbekistan plans to purchase American auto components worth $5 billion over three years, and companies from the USA may participate in the privatization of UzAuto Motors. Furthermore, Uzbekistan Airways has signed a contract to purchase 22 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft for a total of $8.5 billion. The country also intends to import agricultural machinery worth up to $2 billion.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized that the priorities in cooperation are energy, strategic raw materials, logistics, and information technology. He noted that the development of renewable energy sources would reduce electricity costs in Uzbekistan by 15%, making it the cheapest in Central Asia.
