Belarus will strengthen energy independence by 2030

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced the need to increase the level of energy independence of the country by 2030. This statement was made during the second meeting of the VII All-Belarusian People's Assembly, as reported by the BelTA agency.

Lukashenko emphasized that energy plays a key role in economic development and is the foundation for ensuring the independence of the state. He noted that Belarus has significant advantages in this area, and the constructed nuclear power plant has already significantly strengthened energy independence; however, by 2030, even higher indicators must be achieved.

Additionally, the president noted that the capacities of the nuclear power plant have become a stimulus for modernizing infrastructure and implementing electric transport.

“In recent years, 2 million square meters of new electrified housing have been built. Modern Belarusian electric buses now operate not only in Minsk and regional centers but also in such 'experimental areas' as Zhodino, Shklov, and Novopolotsk,” he emphasized.

Lukashenko urged regional authorities and the government to actively use this experience. He instructed to ensure the launch of convenient and reliable electric buses, including in satellite cities, but noted that he does not support the cancellation of route taxis.

“Citizens should have the right to choose which transport to use. But if people come to me with complaints about queues, I cannot remain indifferent,” Lukashenko added.

Furthermore, the president reported that buses powered by gas motor fuel, as well as electric buses and vehicles with internal combustion engines, are already on the routes. He emphasized that ensuring the reliability of energy facilities remains one of the priority tasks. The Ministry of Energy was instructed to build power transmission lines of all voltage classes and substations with sufficient capacity as soon as possible.

“The nuclear power plant generates electricity, but outdated lines and substations cannot withstand the necessary load,” the president noted.

At the same time, Lukashenko stressed that the modernization of the energy system will not lead to an increase in tariffs for the population and enterprises above the established level.
