The Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced its intention to allocate 50% of its annual lending portfolio to climate-related projects by 2030. This statement was made on November 17 by the bank's Vice President Inmin Yang at the business forum of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) held in Bishkek.

During the two-day event, participants will discuss the implementation of key aspects of cooperation, such as improving business corridors, eliminating bottlenecks, and joint actions between the public and private sectors to address issues.

Inmin Yang highlighted three key messages articulated at the forum:

1. The Importance of the Private Sector

The Vice President emphasized the significance of public-private partnerships for the development of infrastructure, digital technologies, and sustainable environmental growth.

2. Regional Cooperation

According to Yang, “CAREC's work in trade and transport aims to reduce borders, harmonize standards, and create digital infrastructure that ensures the efficient and reliable movement of goods, payments, and data.”

3. Environmentally Sustainable Growth

He also noted that clean energy, “smart” logistics, and climate-resilient infrastructure are becoming a necessity rather than an option.

The ADB aims to direct 50% of its annual lending towards climate projects by 2030, ensuring reliable energy, clean logistics, and sustainable facilities along all corridors.

According to Yang, the bank will continue to actively promote regional cooperation by engaging the private sector and mobilizing financing to achieve CAREC's goals.

By 2030, the ADB plans to reach $13 billion per year in total private sector financing and direct 40% of its sovereign operations to support private businesses.
