The Minister of Economy and Commerce, Bakyt Sydykov, shared his views on the results of the business forum in an interview with the Kabar agency. This forum was part of the official visit of the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, to Egypt.
We remind you that on November 4 and 5, 2025, President Japarov visited Egypt for the first time, marking his first visit to the African continent since the country's independence. As a result of this visit, eight important bilateral agreements were signed, covering areas such as the economy, banking, agriculture, education, energy, and religious cooperation.
Sydykov noted that the key task of the business forum was to create a reliable foundation for economic interaction between Kyrgyzstan and Egypt, both at the level of government structures and among the business community.
"The forum is intended to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, and innovative solutions. During the event, an intergovernmental agreement on economic partnership was signed, which provides for the establishment of a commission for further interaction in trade and economic, cultural, and social-humanitarian spheres," he added.
Various memorandums and agreements aimed at expanding mutual business ties and trade were also signed during the forum. Participants presented their economic opportunities and began establishing direct contacts between companies and entrepreneurs. The first intergovernmental meeting is scheduled to take place soon in Bishkek.
The Minister of Economy emphasized that the current trade volume between the two countries does not correspond to the existing potential.
"In the first eight months of 2025, the volume of mutual trade amounted to about 7 million dollars, which, to put it mildly, is a low figure. Nevertheless, I am confident that thanks to the agreements reached, our cooperation will actively develop. Egypt is a market with a population of over 120 million people, strategically located in the northern part of Africa. We need to make the most of this potential," noted Sydykov.
Additionally, the minister highlighted opportunities for cooperation in tourism and energy sectors.
"Kyrgyzstan can attract Egyptian tourists with its unique climate and natural landscapes, while citizens of Kyrgyzstan would be interested in exploring Egypt's rich cultural heritage. Furthermore, Egypt has significant experience in infrastructure and energy projects, and we expect investments from our Egyptian partners in these areas," he concluded.
