202 Indian citizens recruited into the Russian army, 26 of them killed, - Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs

On December 18, Indian Foreign Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh informed Parliament that an estimated 202 Indian citizens had been recruited into the Russian army. According to him, of this number, 119 were released early, while 26 Indians, according to information from Russian authorities, died, and 7 are listed as missing. The minister also noted that efforts are underway to facilitate the early discharge of another 50 individuals.

Singh added that "the Ministry of Foreign Affairs assisted in the repatriation of the remains of 10 Indian citizens who died in Russia, as well as in the cremation of two of them. To identify the 18 Indians who are considered dead or missing, DNA samples from their relatives were submitted to the Russian authorities."
