During his speech, Lukashenko confirmed that the "Oreshnik" is a modern Russian missile complex equipped with a medium-range ballistic missile. Its existence was first revealed in November 2024 after a successful missile launch from the Kapustin Yar range, targeting the "Yuzhmash" plant in Dnipro.

In December of the same year, Lukashenko mentioned the possibility of deploying this complex on Belarusian territory, and in August 2025, work began to prepare the first positions for the installation of the "Oreshnik" in Belarus.

According to the president's announcement, on December 18, it was declared that the hypersonic missile complex "Oreshnik" had already been in Belarus since December 17 and had begun combat duty.
