The UK Ministry of Defence has announced the launch of a competition to create a new ground-based ballistic missile for Ukraine, named Nightfall. The missile is expected to be equipped with a warhead weighing 200 kg and will be capable of hitting targets at a distance of over 500 km.
It is planned to produce up to 10 such missiles each month, with each costing up to £800,000 (approximately $1.1 million). UK Defence Secretary Jon Healey stated: “We are committed to providing the Ukrainians with modern weaponry to counter Russian forces.”

The UK Ministry of Defence will allocate £9 million (about $12.1 million) for the missile's development and will sign contracts with three industrial groups. The first prototypes of the missile are expected to be ready for testing within the next year. The deadline for submitting applications to participate in the competition is set for February 9, with contract signing anticipated in March.
