During his speech at the Mar-a-Lago residence, Trump announced plans to create a new class of battleships that will bear his name. According to him, this program aims to build at least two new combat ships that will become the largest in the history of shipbuilding.
The first of these, USS Defiant, is currently in the design phase, with construction set to begin in the early 2030s. Trump emphasized that these battleships will be a central element of the so-called "golden fleet" of the US Navy, which may eventually include 20 to 25 such ships.
The new battleships will be equipped not only with traditional armaments but also with modern technologies such as hypersonic missiles, railguns, and high-energy combat lasers.
Also present at the event were US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Secretary of the Navy John F. Kelly. Hegseth, commenting on the initiative, noted that strengthening the Navy is part of a broader strategy to reform the armed forces and restore the "warrior spirit."
Secretary of the Navy John F. Kelly added that the Trump-class battleship should become not only the most powerful and technologically advanced ship but also a symbol of a new phase in the development of the American fleet.
