On the morning of December 13, Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced the intention to continue military actions against Cambodia. This statement followed a message from U.S. President Donald Trump, who claimed that a ceasefire agreement had been reached between the parties with his mediation.

In his Facebook post, Charnvirakul noted that military operations would not cease until the existing security threat to Thailand was eliminated.

He emphasized: "This is not a coincidence. We will act until we are sure that our people and country are no longer in danger. Our actions speak for themselves," the Prime Minister added.

The day before, Trump announced on the social network Truth Social that an agreement for an immediate ceasefire had been reached between Thailand and Cambodia following his phone conversations with the leaders of both countries. He stated that both sides agreed to "stop all shelling starting tonight" and return to a previously reached peace agreement with his participation and the assistance of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Trump also described the mine explosion that resulted in the deaths and injuries of Thai soldiers as an "accident," while calling Thailand's retaliatory actions "very harsh."

Charnvirakul's statement comes against the backdrop of an ongoing conflict on the border between Thailand and Cambodia, which resumed a few days ago. According to Reuters, at least 20 people have died as a result of the fighting, around 200 have been injured, and hundreds of thousands of residents in border areas have been forced to leave their homes. Clashes are occurring at more than ten points along the border, where the sides are exchanging artillery fire and accusing each other of attacks on civilian facilities.

Additionally, on December 12, Anutin Charnvirakul dissolved parliament without waiting for a vote of no confidence and established a temporary government regime. This decision was made against the backdrop of the military conflict with Cambodia and an internal political crisis, as the opposition accused the ruling party of undermining agreements on constitutional reform and was preparing to initiate the procedure for the removal of the head of government.
