The head coach of the Madrid club "Real," Xabi Alonso, who has held his position for eight months, has decided to resign, as reported by the BBC. His place will be taken by Álvaro Arbeloa, who is 42 years old and with whom Alonso played both for the Spanish national team and at the English club "Liverpool."
It is reported that "Real" suffered a defeat to its main rival, "Barcelona," in the final of the Spanish Super Cup on January 11. In the current championship, the team is in second place, trailing "Barca" by four points.
As a player, Xabi Alonso spent five seasons at "Real." In his coaching career, he led Bayer Leverkusen to the championship title in Germany in 2024, and then, last summer, he was appointed head coach of "Real," replacing Carlo Ancelotti, who became famous at the club.
