Former Liverpool coach José Manuel Ochotorena has passed away

José Manuel Ochotorena has passed away at the age of 65, known as the former goalkeeping coach of Liverpool and ex-goalkeeper of Real Madrid, Valencia, and the Spanish national team. His death was the result of a long battle with cancer.

Ochotorena established himself as a valuable member of Rafael Benitez's team at Liverpool, where he played a key role in the club's memorable victory in the 2005 Champions League. After finishing his work in England, he returned to his homeland and continued his career at Valencia, as well as with the Spanish national team.

As a player, Ochotorena won the Spanish championship three times while playing for Real Madrid, but his career was particularly associated with Valencia, where he was awarded the Zamora Trophy as the best goalkeeper in La Liga.

Valencia Club has published an official statement expressing deep sorrow over the loss of Ochotorena:

“Valencia Football Club is heartbroken to announce the passing of José Manuel Ochotorena — a legend of our club and an outstanding figure in Spanish football. As a famous goalkeeper for Valencia and a holder of the Zamora Trophy, he left a significant mark in history, continuing his career as a goalkeeping coach, with whom he became a European and World Champion.”

“We express our sincere condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Ochotorena. His absence will be deeply felt.”

José Manuel Ochotorena left a bright mark in world football, becoming an outstanding figure both as a player and a coach, dedicating his life to the development of Spanish football.
