During the discussion of issues related to the sanitary and epidemiological situation in the country and the health control of foreign citizens, Yarovaya proposed to initiate changes to the existing regulations.
However, she did not specify which diseases would be added to the new list.
Earlier, three bills aimed at combating illegal migration and protecting the health of the population in Russia were presented to the State Duma. One of the key changes is a significant increase in fines for migrants evading medical examinations, by more than 12 times, as well as the possibility of deportation at the discretion of the court. The new amendments prohibit mediation in medical checks and strengthen liability for their conduct.
In November of this year, the rules for obtaining compulsory health insurance policies for labor migrants were also tightened in Russia. Now, to receive free medical assistance, migrants must work in the country for at least five years, instead of the previous three.
The law signed by President Vladimir Putin in 2021 requires labor migrants to undergo fingerprinting and medical examinations. These measures came into effect at the end of the same year and are necessary for the legalization of migrants' status, allowing them to legally reside and work in Russia.
The medical examination includes testing for infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, syphilis, and sexually transmitted infections, as well as HIV and drug dependence. The medical certificates obtained are valid for three months from the date of issuance.
