The introduction of English as a second language requires interaction among three main parties (the government, students, and teachers), making it an important competency for the future. The UK government is actively involved in supporting this process in Mongolia, as reported by MiddleAsianNews.
Recently, Fiona Blight visited the Dundgovi aimag, where she met with local students and educators.

“In Dundgovi, 56 teachers and 7,291 students have been trained as part of the curriculum. Meeting with them was an inspiring experience, as I saw the opportunities that learning English opens up,” noted Ambassador Blight.
On December 16, 2025, Fiona Blight signed a Memorandum of Understanding, marking the start of the second phase of the UK government-funded project “Supporting English Language Skills for Teachers and Students in Remote Areas,” implemented in collaboration with UNICEF and the Ministry of Education of Mongolia.

One of the projects supported by the United Kingdom is the Chevening Alumni program.
In Uvs, experienced teachers share their knowledge with local educators, and the instructor training course for primary education is led by Ariunzul Liijuu-Ochir, a Chevening program alumna, with support from the Chevening Alumni Fund from the UK.
Thus, the UK actively supports Mongolian teachers by providing them with opportunities for quality English language instruction and investing in the future of students across the country.
By the 2023-2024 academic year, the Pearson English curriculum was implemented in Mongolia's education system. Starting in 2025, students in grades 5-7 will study English for 100% of their lessons, and from the 2025-2026 academic year, students in grades 3-9 will gradually join the program.

By 2025, 2,300 English language teachers will have been trained in Mongolia, and the program will be updated to include new instructors through professional development modules, training in blended learning methods, and improving teaching standards.
Efforts will also be directed towards developing policies for English language teaching and creating educational materials based on the Pearson program.
