Breaking Barriers: "English Language Training for Residents of Remote and Disadvantaged Communities in Mongolia"

The project launched with the support of the United Kingdom will help improve the level of English in remote parts of Mongolia.

At the signing of the agreement for the financing of the second phase of the "Breaking Barriers" project, Ambassador Fiona Blight was present. This project, supported by the UK government, is being implemented in cooperation with UNICEF and the Ministry of Education of Mongolia.

The Minister of Education, Naranbayar Purevsuren, noted at the signing ceremony that the first phase of the project significantly improved the introduction of English as an additional subject in general education schools starting from the third grade, beginning with the 2025–2026 academic year.

During the first phase, 326 teachers were trained in provinces such as Bayan-Ölgii, Bayankhongor, and Sukhbaatar, allowing for the coverage of 12,000 students. 39% of teachers improved their English skills, over 540 students became members of 15 English-speaking clubs, and 126 digital devices were sent to 26 schools to support distance learning.

In the new phase, it is planned to train 453 teachers in the provinces of Arkhangai, Bulgan, Dundgovi, Khentii, and Khuvsgul, which will provide English language education to 20,000 students from rural areas. Additionally, new mentors will also undergo training.

"Breaking Barriers: the project reaches remote and disadvantaged communities through English language training" — the second phase expands its boundaries to five new provinces and includes 450 teachers and 20,000 students.
