At the meeting on November 14, 2025, the Third Committee of the 80th UN General Assembly approved the resolution "Improving the Situation of Rural Women and Girls," proposed by Mongolia. This became known through a publication on the Facebook page of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia.

According to data provided by recent studies, about 3.5 billion people, which constitutes 43% of the world's population, live in rural or remote areas. Of these, 1.7 billion are women and girls. Despite this, progress in achieving global goals related to gender equality, such as Sustainable Development Goal 5, remains slow and insufficient.

The report, timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, emphasizes that rural women face disproportionately high levels of poverty, limited access to social services, including education and healthcare, and a lack of employment and income opportunities. Additionally, they bear a significant burden of unpaid domestic work and caregiving, finding themselves in a vulnerable position due to climate change and worsening environmental conditions.

In light of the above, the delegates from Mongolia included in the new resolution provisions calling on governments, non-governmental organizations, and all stakeholders to create the necessary conditions to improve the lives of women and girls living in rural, remote, or island areas. This is particularly relevant in the context of the ongoing economic, financial, and food crises, as well as changes brought about by technological processes and climate. The resolution also emphasizes the importance of equal and active participation of these women in decision-making.

Mongolia's resolution "Improving the Situation of Rural Women and Girls" received support from 98 UN member states, which became co-sponsors of the document.
