The radio station Nawaye Zan, which translates to "Voice of Women," began its operations in Herat, the third largest city in northwestern Afghanistan. The station's staff includes more than ten female journalists who cover pressing issues concerning women.

According to the station's director, Shabnam Karimi, the project was created exclusively for women, and its entire team consists of women.

The journalists at the station strive to highlight the achievements and challenges faced by women and girls. Saadineh Yazdanparast, one of the staff members, noted that the radio broadcasts will help convey women's opinions to government officials and a wider audience, including the international community.

Shabnam Karimi added that Nawaye Zan is the only media outlet focused on women in the western region of the country.

The launch of the radio station in Herat coincided with the tightening of restrictions on women. The city authorities imposed a ban on women appearing without a burqa in government institutions, including hospitals and medical centers. Additionally, taxi drivers are prohibited from transporting women without burqas.

It is worth noting that in February of this year, the Taliban closed the only women's radio station in Kabul, Radio Begum, for "unauthorized broadcasting" of information and programs to foreign media, resulting in the detention of some of its staff.
