Women hold 39.75% of deputy mandates in local keneshes of Kyrgyzstan
Women's participation in the political life of Kyrgyzstan continues to grow, as evidenced by their increased representation in local self-government bodies. The Director of the Agency for State Service and Local Self-Government, Kudaibergen Bazarbaev, announced this data at a republican seminar for women in leadership positions in government agencies.
As a result of the administrative-territorial reform, the total number of deputy mandates in local councils has decreased from 9,062 to 6,384. Nevertheless, 2,538 women deputies have managed to gain the support of voters and secure seats in local representative bodies. This means that women make up 39.75% of the total number of deputies.
Bazarbaev noted that these results indicate a growing involvement of women in management processes: "Women's activity in public and political life is increasing, and they are making a significant contribution to the country's development through their activities and voting. The state's gender policy is beginning to bear real fruit."
The director also presented fresh data on the composition of state and municipal services. A total of 22,425 people work in these structures, of which 8,604 (38%) are women.
• Administrative employees — 20,665 people, of which 8,183 (39.5%) are women;
• Political employees — 1,234 people, of which 264 (21%) are women;
• Special employees — 526 people, of which 240 (45.6%) are women.
The proportion of women is particularly high in the central offices of various ministries. In particular, in the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection, and Migration, this figure reaches 80%, in the Ministry of Education — 74%, in the Ministry of Emergency Situations — 69%, in the Ministry of Digital Development — 60%, in the Ministry of Justice and the Supreme Court — 65%, and in the General Prosecutor's Office — 45%.
The seminar, taking place in Bishkek, aims to develop the professional and leadership skills of women leaders, strengthen their positions in the system of public administration, as well as further implement gender equality policies and achieve sustainable development.
