The construction of the second nuclear power plant will take place in the Almaty region, near the village of Ulken, according to the official document.

The text of the resolution states: “To make a decision on the construction of the nuclear facility ‘Second Nuclear Power Plant’ and to designate the location for its placement — Zhambyl District of Almaty Region.”

The head of the Atomic Energy Agency, Almasadam Satkaliyev, previously mentioned the choice of location in the Mazhilis, noting that the southern regions of the country suffer from a lack of electricity. Therefore, placing the new station in the south is considered particularly relevant.

The first nuclear power plant is already under construction in the Ulken area, with its implementation being carried out by the Russian company Rosatom. Soon, a second station will also appear nearby. The Chinese corporation CNNC is being considered as a potential contractor.
