Preliminary reports suggest that the shooter likely committed suicide. As a result of the shooting, at least 25 people were injured, two of whom are in critical condition and require hospitalization. The remaining students and staff were evacuated without serious injuries.
The AFP agency reports that initially Canadian media reported that the shooter was a woman. However, the police have not yet provided additional details about the identity of the attacker, although they have confirmed their identification.
The shooting was responded to by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who expressed his grief on social media. He stated that he is "devastated" by the news of the tragedy and extended his condolences to the families and friends of the victims, calling the incident a horrific act of violence.
