According to information provided by OpenAI, DeepSeek employs a method known as "distillation," which involves training its own systems based on the work of other AI models. The company claims that the Chinese developer has found ways to bypass protective mechanisms, disguises its requests through third-party platforms, and uses software to automatically collect data from OpenAI models.

Furthermore, DeepSeek offers its services free of charge, which, according to OpenAI, creates competitive threats for American companies that have invested significant resources in the development of AI technologies.

OpenAI has also expressed concerns about potential national security risks. In particular, it has been revealed that the DeepSeek chatbot limits its responses on topics that may attract the interest of Chinese authorities. It is also possible that protective mechanisms for copying technologies will not be fully transferred, increasing the likelihood of abuse.

John Moolenaar, head of the House Committee on China, noted that DeepSeek's actions are part of Beijing's strategy to copy foreign technologies. Congressman Michael McCaul added that the successes of the Chinese company highlight the risks associated with supplying advanced chips to China.

U.S. authorities are also investigating the possibility that DeepSeek circumvented export restrictions by purchasing chips through third countries. It was previously reported that during the development of its models, the company may have used equipment from Nvidia, including that which was smuggled into China.
