According to information obtained from "Ukrainska Pravda," Halushchenko was removed from a train. A source from the publication added that border guards received a request from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) to notify them of Halushchenko's intention to cross the border.

According to a statement from NABU, the detention of the ex-minister was confirmed: "Today, during the crossing of the state border, NABU detectives detained the former Minister of Energy as part of the 'Midas' case," representatives of the bureau reported.

Herman Halushchenko was appointed Minister of Energy of Ukraine in April 2021, and in July 2025 he transitioned to the position of Minister of Justice. After his resignation, the Ministry of Energy was headed by Svitlana Grinchuk. In November 2025, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine dismissed both Halushchenko and Grinchuk amid a corruption scandal involving "Energoatom" and businessman Timur Mindich. Searches were conducted as part of the anti-corruption operation "Midas," including at Halushchenko's premises.
