The Supreme Court of Kazakhstan has suspended the decision to extradite Chechen activist Mansur Movlaev to Russia, keeping him in custody for another month. This was reported to "Kursiv" by the press service of the Supreme Court.

Recently, the UN Human Rights Committee registered Movlaev's complaint and urged Kazakhstan not to extradite him while the case is under consideration.

Mansur Movlaev became known for his active criticism of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov and his speeches against human rights violations and political repression in the republic. In 2020, he was sentenced to three years in prison under Article 228 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, concerning illegal drug trafficking. Opposition figures from Chechnya claim that this case was fabricated.

After being conditionally released in 2022, Movlaev was kidnapped and taken to one of the district police departments in Chechnya. He managed to escape and, without any documents, reached Kyrgyzstan, where Russia placed him on the federal wanted list for financing extremism.

In Kyrgyzstan, Movlaev served a sentence for illegal border crossing and was ordered to leave the country; however, he was able to leave independently.

In May 2025, the activist was detained in Kazakhstan at Russia's request. Initially, he was arrested for 40 days, but this period was repeatedly extended. In December, the authorities of Kazakhstan denied him refugee status, and the following month, the General Prosecutor's Office approved his extradition to Russia.
