Prisoners created a channel for drug delivery from the USA to Almaty
In Almaty, the prosecutor's office detained 20 individuals connected to a major drug smuggling case from the United States. Among those detained were two employees of the National Security Committee (KNB) and three officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) of Kazakhstan, local media reports.
According to sources in the city prosecutor's office, the detainees organized a channel for transporting drugs from the USA to Almaty. During investigative actions, 25 packages of drugs were seized, with a total weight of 43 kilograms, at the "Zhetysu" customs post.
According to the prosecutor's office, the drug supply channel was organized by a convict serving a sentence in a correctional facility. He established the delivery of marijuana and cannabis extract to Almaty, involving organizers, curators, patrons, droppers, stashers, and packagers in the criminal activity.
Assets acquired through criminal means have been seized. The seizure includes five apartments, three buildings, ten plots of land, and 44 vehicles.
The case was referred to the court at the end of September. Members of the criminal group involved in the transportation and sale of drugs in especially large quantities face imprisonment for a term of 15 to 20 years with confiscation of property.
Additionally, for abuse of official powers, they could face up to 7 years of imprisonment with asset confiscation and a ban on holding certain positions.
