In August 2024, Durov was detained in France. He faced charges including failure to provide requested information, involvement in the distribution of malicious software and pornographic images involving minors, as well as money laundering.
Durov was placed under a travel ban from leaving the country without the permission of law enforcement. However, he was able to obtain permission for trips to Dubai due to his UAE citizenship, while requests for travel to the USA and Sweden were denied by the Paris prosecutor's office.
It is worth noting that French intelligence services arrested Pavel Durov at the "Le Bourget" airport in August 2024, and he was charged with insufficient measures to prevent the spread of extremist content on Telegram.
On August 28, he was released from custody on a bail of 5 million euros, with a prohibition on leaving France and a requirement to report to the local police twice a week.
