In some regions, it is already impossible to send messages
Recent statements by Mikhail Klimarev, head of the "Internet Protection Society," have confirmed information about the increasing blocking of the Telegram and WhatsApp messengers in the country.
According to Klimarev, users in several Russian regions report that sending messages has become impossible. While in other countries the messengers operate without interruptions, local failures are observed in Russia.
He also noted that "the complete blocking of Telegram and WhatsApp in Russia has already begun and may be completed by 2026." The head of the organization reminded about the situation with YouTube, which started to be blocked from mid-2024, with its complete unavailability achieved by the end of that year. Currently, the video hosting service can only be accessed through a VPN.
In addition, there is growing discussion in Russia about the concept of a "white internet," which implies a complete blocking of anonymous networks with mandatory user identification.
