Jair Bolsonaro, the former president of Brazil, has begun serving a 27-year prison sentence related to an attempted coup. This was reported by Brazilian news outlets.

Bolsonaro was sentenced to 27 years and 3 months in prison, and his punishment is currently being served at the headquarters of the Federal Police in Brasília, where he was transferred last week.

According to local media, the 70-year-old ex-president is in a small cell measuring 12 square meters, which is equipped with a television, air conditioning, and a refrigerator.

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court rejected his appeal, and recently confirmed the finality of the sentence, according to AFP.

In September 2025, the Supreme Court found Bolsonaro guilty of conspiracy to commit a coup, after which he was sentenced to 27 years and 3 months. Until the end of November, he was under house arrest; however, on November 22, he was arrested due to the risk of escape, as the ex-president attempted to remove his electronic bracelet using a soldering iron.

Bolsonaro served as president from January 1, 2019, to January 1, 2023.
