Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan apologized to Anna Akopyan after she announced her intention to leave the government residences where they lived together.
“I respect Anna's choice. For the past thirty years, she has been by my side during difficult times, being my support and refuge. I cannot be sure that I was as supportive. I may have caused her a lot of pain, for which I apologize,” the Prime Minister noted on his Telegram channel.
On February 17, Anna Akopyan announced the end of their civil marriage, but did not disclose the reasons for the breakup or provide additional details.
Nikol Pashinyan and Anna Akopyan began their relationship back in the 1990s, having met while studying at Yerevan State University. Their marriage is not officially registered, and the couple has four children.
Pashinyan explained that he did not formalize his marriage to Akopyan in order to "protect the family." In the 90s, as an opposition figure, he anticipated possible arrest and confiscation of property, so he registered their jointly acquired housing in Anna's name to ensure "the children had a place to live."
