The Deputy Minister noted: “At the moment, the question of Armenia's withdrawal from the CSTO is not on the agenda. We have not been tasked with such a goal.”

He also added that Armenia's policy and format of interaction with the CSTO are known. “We do not participate in the activities of the CSTO, but we do not hinder the adoption of any decisions or documents either. Our current policy is such. Armenia builds its foreign policy based on its own interests and the current situation,” explained Safaryan.

In July, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan indicated that withdrawal from the CSTO looks like the “most likely” scenario. In December 2024, he stated that Yerevan considers itself outside the CSTO and that the “point of no return” has already been passed. The reason for this decision, according to him, was the CSTO's failure to fulfill its obligations to ensure Armenia's security.

Additionally, in June, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan reported that the country did not pay its contribution for 2024 to the CSTO.

At the end of June, the Kremlin noted that Armenia's membership in the CSTO provides certain advantages; however, the decision to continue participation or withdraw remains the sovereign right of the republic itself.
