In his first address to the nation following the outbreak of hostilities, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that the temporary council of the country's leadership has already begun its work. This announcement was made in a video message covered by the Tasnim agency.

According to the president, the new temporary governing body will continue the course set by its predecessor, the deceased Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Pezeshkian noted: "With God's help, the council will continue the path of the Imam and our dear leader. The armed forces of Iran will continue to attack enemy military targets."

He also emphasized that the USA and Israel "will not be able to achieve their goals" due to the killing of the leader, adding that his course will be continued. The head of state called on the people to take to the streets and mosques to "thwart the enemies' plans" and to pray for the well-being of the country.

According to the latest reports, Ali Khamenei was killed on February 28 as a result of a joint military operation by the USA and Israel, when his residence in Tehran was attacked during a meeting of the top leadership. Several members of his family and high-ranking military officials, including representatives of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Ministry of Defense, also died in this incident. Khamenei had led Iran since 1989, and a 40-day mourning period has been declared in the country.

The temporary council was formed in accordance with Article 111 of the Iranian Constitution. It consists of the president, the chairman of the Supreme Court, and one of the members of the Guardian Council of the Constitution. This body will govern the country until a new Supreme Leader is appointed, who will be elected by 88 members of the Assembly of Experts.

Additionally, as reported by the ILNA agency, it is possible that former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was killed as a result of strikes in the Narmak area of Tehran; however, this information has not yet been officially confirmed.
