According to Yuri Ushakov, the conversation between the leaders was constructive and candid, which is typical for their interactions. He noted that the discussion lasted about an hour, and the previous contact between Trump and Putin took place in December 2025. The main topics of discussion were the conflict with Iran and the trilateral negotiations in the Russia–U.S.–Ukraine format.
Ushakov also added that Trump expressed interest in a swift ceasefire in Ukraine and the establishment of peace. Putin, for his part, supported the U.S. efforts as a mediator in the negotiations.
At a press conference in Florida, Trump answered questions about his conversation with Putin, noting that the Russian president "wanted to help" in resolving the conflict with Iran. However, the main focus of the conversation was on the war in Ukraine. "We talked about Ukraine, and it seems like an endless struggle. There is enormous hatred between Putin and Zelensky, and they cannot find common ground. Nevertheless, I believe the conversation was positive," Trump said. He added that he suggested to Putin to focus on ending the war in Ukraine, which could be more beneficial.
