In discussions that lasted until early morning, Russian President Vladimir Putin, his assistant Yuri Ushakov, and the special representative of the head of state, Kirill Dmitriev, who heads the Russian Direct Investment Fund, participated.
From the US side, the negotiations involved the President's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of Donald Trump.
During the meeting, the American representatives presented an updated peace plan from Washington, which was revised after consultations with Ukraine.
After the negotiations concluded, Steve Witkoff headed to the US embassy but did not make any comments to the press. Kirill Dmitriev, summarizing the meeting, wrote on social media: "Productive".
Russian President's assistant Yuri Ushakov spoke about the results of the negotiations, noting that the meeting was "very useful and constructive." He added that during the discussions, the US side reviewed documents that had previously been submitted to Moscow, including four new documents in addition to the original peace plan.
“We did not delve into specific formulations, but discussed the strategy laid out in the American proposals. Some points were met with approval, while others were criticized,” Ushakov told journalists. He added that territorial issues, which Russia considers key to resolving the crisis, were addressed during the negotiations.
“So far, a compromise solution has not been found, but some American initiatives appear acceptable, although they require further discussion. There are formulations that do not suit us, so work will continue,” Ushakov noted.
When asked whether the world has become closer after these negotiations, the president's assistant replied: “Definitely, it has not become further away.”
Vladimir Putin, through Witkoff, conveyed a friendly greeting to Donald Trump and a number of important political signals. Ushakov also reported that the parties agreed not to disclose the details of the negotiations.
