Trump responded to questions from journalists regarding criticism from some Republicans who believed the original 28-point plan was too favorable to Russia.
“It wasn’t a plan, just a concept. They took each of the 28 points and reduced them to 22. Solutions have already been found for many points, and they are quite favorable. Let’s see what comes of it,” he commented.
The president also noted that Ukraine should consider the possibility of territorial concessions in light of the situation on the front.
“Look at how everything is developing: if you pay attention, everything is going in one direction [on the front]. Ultimately, this land may be captured by Russia in the coming months. Do you want to continue the war and lose another 50-60 thousand people? Or is it better to take action now?” Trump added.
According to him, next week special envoy Stephen Whitcoff will travel to Moscow to discuss the peace plan with Vladimir Putin, and possibly his son-in-law Jared Kushner will also join the negotiations.
Recall that on November 21, the Trump administration presented a plan to end the war in Ukraine, consisting of 28 points. Leaders of the European Union, Canada, and Japan expressed their comments regarding its content, pointing out the unacceptability of some points and the need for revision. This was discussed on November 23 at a meeting of representatives from the EU, the U.S., and Ukraine in Geneva, after which reports emerged that Trump’s plan had been reduced from 28 to 19 points. According to ABC News, points concerning the reduction of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and full amnesty for the parties for their actions during the conflict were excluded from the plan.
