European leaders at the G20 summit: the US peace plan requires refinement

At the G20 summit taking place in South Africa, European leaders expressed concern about the peace plan proposed by the Trump administration for Ukraine, as the Ukrainian side has not yet confirmed its agreement. This was reported by Bloomberg.

The discussion centered around the details of the controversial 28-point document, which was developed in collaboration with Moscow and Washington and is based on a ceasefire model previously applied in Gaza. This plan includes significant concessions to Russia, such as changes in territorial borders, a reduction of Ukrainian armed forces, and a ban on Ukraine joining NATO. Additionally, it is expected that the main financial burden for the reconstruction of Ukraine after the conflict will fall on the European Union.

Diplomats are concerned that reaching an agreement may be difficult, given previous instances where Russia only formally responded to proposals under pressure. Meanwhile, Europe is discussing possible alternative measures, including restrictions on Russian oil tankers.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated his readiness to work on a plan that should lead to a fair end to the war. The US has set a deadline for Ukraine's agreement by Thursday, while leaving room for revising the terms. American officials have also warned of the risk of halting arms and intelligence supplies if Kyiv rejects the proposed plan.

The next important event will be a meeting of high-ranking security officials in Geneva. Europe is striving to develop an alternative plan that would not worsen relations with the US and would also strengthen coordination between London, Berlin, and Paris.
