An American KC-135 refueling aircraft crashed in western Iraq, according to U.S. Central Command and Reuters. According to CENTCOM, the incident occurred in friendly airspace during Operation Epic Fury. Two KC-135s were involved in this incident: one crashed, while the other landed successfully.

Command received information about a rescue operation initiated after the incident. However, later Reuters clarified that there were six service members on board the crashed aircraft, who unfortunately lost their lives.

According to Reuters, the second aircraft was also a KC-135. The causes of the crash are currently under investigation.

“Islamic Resistance in Iraq” — a coalition supported by Iran — claimed responsibility for the crash, but U.S. Central Command denied reports that the aircraft was shot down by enemy fire.
