“During a trip along the water body, we noticed something large ahead. As we got closer, we saw a large bird — a pelican. At that moment, one pelican soared into the air, and unexpectedly, a second one flew out from the reeds. They ascended into the sky like two airplanes,” the witnesses reported.
Ecologist Alexander Sosnovsky added: “The pink pelican does not nest in Kyrgyzstan; it can only be encountered during migration. In its flight, it truly resembles a seaplane. By bending its neck so that its head touches its shoulders, and with its long beak, it can soar for hours on wide wings. The pelican is capable of diving from a height, creating powerful splashes, and with a loud splash, it hits the water, stunning the fish and making it easy prey. This species of bird is listed in the Red Book,” the expert noted.
