The Uzbek city of Andijan has been declared the cultural capital of the Turkic world for the year 2026.

On November 28, the 42nd meeting of the Permanent Council of TURKSOY, an international organization for the culture of Turkic peoples, took place in the city of Aktau, Kazakhstan. The press service of the Ministry of Culture of Kyrgyzstan shared information about the event.

The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Culture and Information of Kazakhstan, Aida Balayeva, while the Deputy Minister of Culture, Information, and Youth Policy of Kyrgyzstan, Askaraly Madaminov, was present.

The Secretary General of TURKSOY, Sultan Raev, noted that in 2025, Aktau will serve as the "Cultural Capital of the Turkic World," providing a platform for the art and culture of Turkic peoples.

The agenda of the meeting included the following issues:

- Prospects for TURKSOY's work;

- Issues of preserving and popularizing the cultural heritage of Turkic peoples;

- Report on the implementation of the "Cultural Capital of the Turkish World" program;

- Selection of a new city that will become the cultural capital in 2027.

Additionally, the Ministry of Culture of Uzbekistan announced Andijan as the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2026. Furthermore, according to a previously adopted decision, this year will be dedicated to Ziya Gökalp in the Turkic cultural context.
