The initiative to create fruit orchards along highways, aimed at reducing soil erosion and developing green infrastructure, has been initiated by the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry. This will also help strengthen road embankments.

As part of this program, it is planned to plant fruit trees along sections of major roads, approximately one kilometer long in each region of the country. According to available data, suitable land plots have already been identified in some areas, and planting of seedlings is intended to begin in 2026.

Considering the soil and climate characteristics in various regions, the ministry recommends using pre-prepared lists of varieties for planting.

“Foreign experience shows that well-organized fruit orchards along roads not only contribute to improving the environmental situation but also help enhance the country's food security by increasing fruit production,” the official statement notes.

The ministry is currently developing a draft resolution for the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic to implement this initiative.
