Turmush — The term "shayyk" refers to a mullah who reads the Quran and provides "bata" in a sacred setting on Mount Suleiman-Too, located in Osh, reports Turmush correspondent.
At the top of this mountain is Babur's house, where mosque officials conduct various rituals. Visitors come here to receive "bata" (blessing), pray, and perform "duba" (worship with a request for something good).
According to information from the staff of the historical and archaeological museum complex "Suleiman-Too," until the early 20th century, the residents of the street named Shayyk introduced tourists to this famous mountain. They provided services to those who came to see its unusual beauty.
“Until the 20th century, there was a street called Shayyk near the mountain, and its residents welcomed guests to Suleiman-Too, telling them legends about the mountain and its history. There was a tradition where visitors would tie pieces of cloth to trees, but this has since disappeared. In 2000, during the celebration of the 3000th anniversary of the city of Osh, Shayyk street was demolished, but a small part of this street remains on the northern side of the mountain,” said H. Ubaidillaev.
