The National Historical and Archaeological Complex "Sulaiman-Too" has several types of traditional Kyrgyz headwear — ak kalpak.

One such example is the "airy kalpak," which is part of the museum collection. This headwear stands out due to its unique method of production and decoration.

As reported by Turmush, Zarina Adilbek kyzy, head of the scientific valuables storage sector, this kalpak was brought in 1981 from the village of Sary-Bulak, located in the Kara-Kulja district. The features of its production can be seen in the combination of [four] parts [symbolizing the four main elements: fire, water, air, and earth]. "When creating the pattern for the headwear, the four parts were first joined together using white thread from the inside.

Then, four strands of horse tail hair were threaded onto a needle and braided as usual, without adding anything inside. The horse tail hair, sewn into the white felt, is clearly visible. To make them stand out even more, patterns were usually not created, and a single row of embroidery with fine silk thread was performed along the edge. Finally, black silk was sewn along the edge, making the ak kalpak more beautiful and dense," she added.
