Dastan Bekeshev urged the acting minister to cancel financial penalties for students who miss classes.
“Academic punishment should be the only one. How can we raise the educational level of students if we are just pulling money from them? I strongly urge to stop this practice in all universities. It seems that universities have forgotten that their main task is education,” he stated.
Gulzat Isamatova confirmed that students should make up for their absences instead of paying for them. She promised to create a commission to address this issue.
It was previously reported that Gulzat Isamatova held the position of Vice-Rector for International Relations and Investments at the Kusein Karasaev University. President Sadyr Japarov appointed her as the acting Minister of Science, Higher Education, and Innovations on December 24.
Isamatova's predecessor, Baktyyar Orozov, was dismissed from his position for violating ethical norms. He was detained by traffic inspectors in the village of Koy-Tash while under the influence of alcohol.
