The deputy demands the cancellation of this practice
At a recent meeting of the committees of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Dastan Bekeshev raised a problem concerning students who are forced to pay 1,000 soms for each day missed in universities and colleges.
According to the parliamentarian, such fines are applied in the International Medical Institute and several colleges.
“Contracts in universities have already increased. They have found a new way to earn money. If a student falls ill, they will have to pay. The rich have the opportunity, while the poor do not,” he noted.
A representative of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education explained that since 2021, for five years, contracts in universities have not increased due to a moratorium imposed by the president. This year, the term of the decree expired, and universities raised prices. Since 90% of educational institutions in the country operate on a self-sustaining basis, they need to earn more to pay salaries and improve infrastructure. He promised that the issue of fines would be studied.
