At a joint meeting of six committees of the Jogorku Kenesh on December 23, Deputy Jumabek Salymbekov pointed out that problems at the Kazakhstan-Russia border have led to massive job losses among citizens.

He emphasized that measures to reduce taxes in the light industry have begun to yield results: many entrepreneurs have come out of the shadows, and business has started to develop actively.

“However, the owners of sewing factories often used the services of home workers who sewed products at home and then delivered them to the factories. Thousands of people in villages supported their families this way. But now hundreds of thousands are left without income, as our goods cannot pass through the border between Kazakhstan and Russia. This issue requires urgent resolution and the search for compromises. If previously there were 200-300 seamstresses working at one enterprise, now their number has decreased to 20-30,” Salymbekov noted.

Almambet Shykmamatov, the chairman of the State Tax Service, responded that this is indeed an important issue. He added that, despite the fact that the arising problems are not dependent on Kyrgyzstan, the president is monitoring the situation.

“I cannot disclose everything, but we are making efforts to find an optimal solution. From January 1, inspections will begin to operate more intensively, and until that moment we will try to take some action,” he added.
