On January 6, a lecture titled "The Christmas Theme in European Art from the 13th to the 18th Century: Icons and Frescoes" will be held at the National Museum of Fine Arts named after Gapar Aitiev, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Culture.

In the run-up to Christmas, participants will have the opportunity to explore examples of religious painting, investigating the richness and diversity of artistic interpretations of a single canonical theme.

"For nearly two thousand years, masters of painting have created icons and frescoes depicting the Nativity, including the scene with the Baby in the manger, the Virgin Mary, Joseph, as well as animals, the adoration of the Magi, the baptism of the infant, shepherds, and angels. We will start with secret drawings in Roman catacombs and move on to magnificent icons, miniatures, and frescoes of medieval churches in Byzantium, Serbia, Georgia, and Ancient Rus, as well as reliefs and stained glass from Germany and France. Next, we will present amazing paintings created in the 15th-16th centuries in Renaissance Italy and the Northern Renaissance countries. The overview will conclude with several masterpieces of Baroque painting from the 17th century," the organizers noted.

The lecture will be conducted by art historian and member of the Union of Artists of Kyrgyzstan, Aina Moldokhmatova. The duration of the event will be 1.5 hours.
