The Turkic Week has kicked off in Vienna

On January 12, 2026, the Turkic Week kicked off in Vienna, marked by the opening of the photo exhibition "The Turkic World on the Silk Road" at the United Nations headquarters.
The Organization of Turkic States reported that high-ranking guests attended the ceremony. The acting director of the Department of Operational Activities of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, Bo Mathiasen, the Secretary-General of the Organization of Turkic States, Ambassador Kubanychbek Omuraliev, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Samir Sharifov, representing the country holding the chairmanship in the OTS, delivered welcoming speeches. The event also featured the participation of the Deputy Director-General of UNIDO, Fatou Haidara, and the Deputy Director of UNODC, Driss El Hadani.

The Secretary-General of the OTS noted that the Silk Road represents a common historical and civilizational artery, connecting the cultures, economies, and societies of Eurasia for many centuries. He emphasized that the modern initiatives of the Organization of Turkic States in the areas of transport connectivity, trade facilitation, and humanitarian exchanges are a continuation of this rich heritage.

The photo exhibition, organized in collaboration with the Turkic Academy, offers viewers a visual journey through the cultural heritage, historical depth, and geographical continuity of the Turkic world along the routes of the Silk Road.

The ceremony concluded with a reception hosted by the Embassy of Azerbaijan.
