On December 12, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbaeva, held a meeting with a delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking States (TURKPA), headed by Secretary General and Ambassador Ramil Hasan.

During the meeting, Narbaeva congratulated Ramil Hasan on his recent election as Secretary General of TURKPA and expressed hopes for his successful work. She emphasized the importance of his contribution to the development of the organization, noting that he played a key role in its institutional establishment.

The Senate leader highlighted the common values, culture, and traditions of Turkic countries, stating that these are a reliable foundation for deepening partnerships in all areas. She confirmed Uzbekistan's readiness to strengthen unity among Turkic peoples, emphasizing that sustainable development is impossible without cohesion.

The Secretary General of TURKPA expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and conveyed congratulations from the leaders of the parliaments of the Assembly's member states. He noted Uzbekistan's significant role as one of the centers of Turkic civilization and emphasized the country's active participation in the Organization of Turkic States. According to him, under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Uzbekistan is actively contributing to the development of Turkic cooperation and plans to make a substantial contribution to TURKPA's activities.

Ramil Hasan also expressed hope that Uzbekistan would become a full member of TURKPA at the upcoming Plenary Session of the Assembly in Kyrgyzstan in 2026. He provided information about current TURKPA initiatives, including a coordination meeting held during the 23rd autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE, noting the active participation of the Uzbek delegation.

The Secretary General presented a Roadmap, a report on the coordination meeting, and the Work Plan of the TURKPA International Secretariat for 2026. These documents aim to protect the interests of the parliaments of the member states, develop parliamentary diplomacy, and coordinate actions on common priorities. He also reminded about the TURKPA observation mission for the extraordinary parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan, scheduled for November 30, 2025.

Tanzila Narbaeva noted that despite the lack of official membership, the Senate and the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis have been actively participating in plenary sessions and the work of TURKPA committees for many years. She emphasized that Uzbekistan attaches great importance to cooperation with Turkic states and the Assembly.

The parties also discussed the proposal to hold annual informal meetings of the speakers of the parliaments of TURKPA. The first such meeting is scheduled for April 2026 in Istanbul as part of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. Tanzila Narbaeva expressed support for this initiative, noting its importance for the prompt resolution of current issues.

In addition, the Senate leader supported the initiative to develop the "TURKPA+" format, emphasizing the significance of expanding interaction with the European Union, the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE, the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS, and other international organizations.

As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed to further deepen cooperation between the parliaments of Turkic states and actively participate in TURKPA events.
