During a joint meeting of the parliamentary groups "Eldik" and "Ala-Too," Deputy Prime Minister Edil Baisalov shared his observations on the current state of poverty in Kyrgyzstan.

He emphasized that "urban poverty" is becoming an increasingly pressing issue. According to him, this is related to access to housing, medical services, and education. Many families facing difficulties in rural areas move to cities in search of a better life but encounter new challenges. "This is a new phenomenon that we have started to notice over the past five years. Currently, the poverty level in cities exceeds that in rural areas. We see many cases of extreme poverty and destitution, especially among children," he noted.

Baisalov also stressed that the government is actively working to improve the situation regarding benefit payments, especially for children.

He added that while the state cannot immediately provide benefits to all children regardless of their families' income, in the coming months, the cabinet of ministers will take steps to improve the situation with payments.

Earlier, the deputies proposed a draft law aimed at expanding social support. It suggests providing benefits to all families with children under 12 years old, and for those in need, up to 16 years old.
