A unique clinical trial has started in Australia aimed at developing personalized mRNA vaccines for the treatment of childhood brain tumors, according to information published in the media.

The initiative, known as PaedNEO-VAX, targets children suffering from the most complex forms of cancer, such as medulloblastoma, ependymoma, and aggressive gliomas, which do not respond to traditional treatment methods or recur after therapy.

This project is being implemented with financial support from the Australian government, which has allocated a grant of $2.578 million for it. The treatment is based on high-precision medical technologies. At the initial stage, whole-genome sequencing of tumors is conducted, allowing for the identification of unique genetic markers for each case. This data is used to create a personalized set of targets that will form the basis for the mRNA vaccine.

Clinical trials are set to begin in the coming months at eight children's hospitals located in five states of Australia.
