Vlad Ushakov, a public figure and eco-activist, criticized the actions of the Bishkek city hall regarding the greening of the city, expressing his opinion on social media.
He noted: "When representatives of the city hall promise 'on camera' to create a city park on the site of the Osh market, I cannot fully trust them. Just look at the wonderful park they implemented on the site of the demolished Naryn restaurant at Victory Square. What a great green area they arranged on the site of the demolished garages in the 11th microdistrict. And what a wonderful recreation area they created on the site of the demolished prosecutor's office at Ala-Too Square, not to mention the new public space near the Central Department Store and the fresh plantings in the botanical garden. Every year, the shady alleys of our city become greener and greener..." he emphasized.
It should be noted that the public expresses critical attitudes towards transformations in urban parks, particularly regarding changes in the Botanical Garden and Atatürk Park, where trees and shrubs are being removed to create new running tracks and other facilities. However, there are also those who support these changes, believing that new social leisure facilities are more important for the growing population of the city.
It is worth reminding that the Osh market will be relocated outside the city this year. The authorities have already held a meeting with traders to discuss issues related to the relocation. At this point, the question of what will appear on the site of the current market remains open. One of the promises made to the public is the creation of a park area.
