The city administration of Osh announced on January 16 plans to dismantle a number of trading facilities that are illegally located in the central park named after Alisher Navoi.

According to information from the municipality, the park needs a complete renovation. The relevant services have emphasized that the recreational area should remain a calm and well-maintained place, not overloaded with commercial buildings.

During the inspection of the area, Jenishbek Toktorbaev criticized the current state of the recreation zone: “This park should bear the name of Navoi, not be a market. Here, it is essentially a ‘Navoi bazaar’. All outdated trading points must be removed. We intend to tidy up the area: we will renovate the facilities, make them modern, and install new comfortable benches. The park must fulfill its primary function. Old and dangerous attractions are subject to dismantling — we will leave only modern and safe structures. There should be a calm and cozy place for walks. It is also necessary to green the area and plant new trees: plane trees, poplars, and black locusts,” added the mayor.

The Alisher Navoi Park is the oldest and most visited park in Osh, located in the city center along the Ak-Buura River.

By January 2026, the park is actively expanding due to previously occupied market areas. The first phase of a large-scale reconstruction was completed in 2025.

New green zones are being created on the site of abandoned structures, such as the "Palvan-Saray." One of the main attractions of the park has long been a real Yak-40 airplane.

The park features a Ferris wheel that offers a picturesque view of Sulayman-Too. For the youth, a modern skate park and workout areas were opened in 2025.

New pedestrian paths with modern lighting have been laid along the embankment. In December 2025, a monument to the poet Alisher Navoi was installed near the park.

The park is a favorite leisure spot for residents due to its many perennial trees and shade. There are cafes in the vicinity that serve traditional shashlik.

In 2026, the authorities plan to complete the improvement of the riverbank and create areas for table tennis and chess enthusiasts.
